TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (7-6-0-2) face the Idaho Steelheads (11-3-1-0) in the second of a three-game series that represents the middle leg of their season-high nine-game road trip.
TALE OF TWO PERIODS:
When comparing performance in the second and third periods, Ontario and Idaho are polar opposites of each other. The Reign outscore their opponents by a 23-6 margin in the second period, while only managing a 9-17 goal differential in the third. On the other side, the Steelheads are outscored 11-20 in the second period, while maintaining a 25-10 differential in the third.
TOUGHNESS ADDED WITH ARSENEAU:
With Derek Couture placed on reserve yesterday, Ontario has received some reinforcements in the form of Vincent Arseneau, who was reassigned earlier today from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. Arseneau had not appeared in any games with Manchester yet this season due to injury, but the 6-foot-2, 200-pound winger is noted for his truculence, evidenced by his 120 penalty minutes in 47 games with the CHL's Denver Cutthroats last season. Arseneau also brings championship experience, as he captured a Memorial Cup with the Shawinigan Cataractes in 2011-12.
STEELHEADS SHOOTING:
The Reign will need to prepare to face a Steelheads roster that has done a good job of maintaining puck possession throughout the season, out shooting their opponents in 11 of 15 matches, and winning 10 of those 11. When the Steelheads are out shot, their record drops to 1-2-0-0.
REGISTER RACKING UP ASSISTS:
With his assist on Tristan King's goal last night, Matt Register continues his climb among league defensemen for most assists. The defending ECHL Defenseman of the Year has 10 helpers on the season, giving him a tie for second place with Tulsa's Scott Macaulay, behind only former Reign teammate Sacha Guimond (11), now with the Kalamazoo Wings.
