Barrie Colts News Release

Barrie, ON- Barrie Colts Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk announced today that the team has named veteran forward Joseph Blandisi as captain for the 2014-15 season. Blandisi, 20, is in his fourth season in the Ontario Hockey League and second with the Barrie Colts.

The Markham, Ontario native has appeared in 197 career OHL games registering 69 goals, 96 assists for 165 points. Blandisi currently leads the Colts in scoring with 33 points in 19 games (13 goals, 20 assists) and ranks 7th in the Ontario Hockey League.

"A lot of guys have shown good leadership but at the end of the day Joseph was the guy that we felt would be the right leader for this group," said Colts Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk. "This decision was something we have been monitoring as the year has gone on and of course Ekblad was our captain last year so we wanted to make sure he wasn't coming back which we didn't think he would be, but we wanted to wait until that was a done deal."

Blandisi spent time with the Owen Sound Attack and Ottawa 67's before being acquired in a trade by the Barrie Colts on January 8th 2013.

"It's a huge honor to be named captain of the Colts," Blandisi said, shortly after hearing the news. "Lots of good players have been through this organization and to have my name on the wall with the previous guys who have worn the "C" is an incredible feeling."

The Barrie Colts also named defenceman Michael Webster, Jonathan Laser and forwards Garrett Hooey and Brendan Lemieux as alternate captains of the team.

"We will rotate our assistants including an extra guy just because we felt like they were good leaders on this hockey club," added Hawerchuk.

The Barrie Colts will be back in action this Saturday November 22nd when they host the visiting Peterborough Petes.
