Kickers Re-Sign Callahan

RICHMOND, VA - (Wednesday, November 19, 2014) - The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that midfielder Michael Callahan has signed a multi-year contract that will commence with the 2015 season.

"Cally is another important signing in our overall objective of returning the top performers from last season's team," commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. "Losing him to injury last season was a big loss and we are delighted that he is regaining full fitness and fully expect him to be ready for the opening day of pre-season."

"He brings all the positive personality characteristics and playing attributes we desire in our players," added Cowlishaw. "He will be our club captain next season and a vital part of maintaining and growing the successful winning tradition we have established here in Richmond."

Signing with the Kickers just days before the 2011 home opener, Callahan made an immediate impact and quickly became a regular on the starting lineup, since making 79 appearances in a Kickers uniform. Over four seasons, he has amassed over 5,400 minutes, contributing to 39 shutouts while adding a pair of goals and five assists.

Callahan made his professional debut with the former USL First Division/USSF Division II side Austin Aztex, where he made 47 appearances over the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Originally from Cary, N.C., he started 79 of 82 games played at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, notching 10 career goals and 13 career assists over four seasons. He earned NSCAA/adidas Men's Collegiate Scholar All-America honors his senior year and was a NSCAA/adidas All-America selection.
