New Orleans VooDoo News Release

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans VooDoo have acquired defensive lineman Matt Hardison and wide receiver Brelan Chancellor, announced the VooDoo front office Monday evening.

Hardison (6-4, 300, Delaware) enters his second season in the Arena Football League. As a rookie, Hardison logged nine tackles and two sacks in nine starts with the Tampa Bay Storm.

"Matt is a versatile, big man who can play on the edge and at the nose position," said Head Coach Cokinos. "I worked him out in Georgia coming out of college, and I really liked him then. I have watched him grow over the last couple years with both NFL and AFL teams.

Matt has really developed his skill set, and I am excited to have Matt on board with the VooDoo for 2015."

He began his collegiate career at Rutgers before settling in at Delaware where he played in 24 games with five starts for the Blue Hens.

Hardison tallied 29 total tackles and 6.5 tackles for a loss including a half-sack, and a pass breakup. In two seasons at Delaware, Hardison helped lead the Blue Hens to a share of the Colonial Athletic Association title and a berth in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision national title game in 2010.

The Freehold, New Jersey native began his professional career in 2012 as an undrafted rookie free agent with the New York Jets of the National Football League.

Chancellor (5-10, 185, North Texas) enters the Arena Football League as a rookie with the New Orleans VooDoo.

During his collegiate career, Chancellor was named the 2013 Conference USA Special Teams Player of Year.

Chancellor was awarded first-team all-conference kick and punt returner and second-team all-conference wide receiver, after posting a single season school record of 1,964 all-purpose yards. He also recorded 386 punt return yards and was one of only 10 players nationally to return a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown.

Chancellor finished his career with 116 catches for 1,711 yards and 12 touchdowns. Chancellor also racked up 125 kickoff returns for 3,031 yards (24.2 avg.) and three touchdowns, and 45 punt returns for 437 yards (9.7 avg.) and one touchdown.

"Brelan is an explosive player with the ball in his hands," said Head Coach Cokinos. "He was a very productive college player. He is very physical player and has good ball skills. All of these attributes are vital in the Arena Football League. We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with Brelan."

Chancellor most recently spent time in training camp with San Diego Chargers of the National Football League.
