 ECHL

Three wins in three days gives Allen division lead

November 17, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

After enjoying a light schedule through the first month of the ECHL season, the Allen Americans moved into first place in the Central Division, winning three games in three days in three different cities over the weekend. The Americans are 6-3-0 for 12 points, and have a one-point edge in the division over Tulsa, Quad City and Rapid City.

Allen's weekend began with a 3-1 win at Missouri on Friday. Jack Combs led the way offensively with three points (2g-1a) while Riley Gill earned the win between the pipes turning aside 28 Mavericks's shots. The Americans' penalty-kill unit also had a big hand in the win, killing off all seven of Missouri's power-play opportunities.

On Saturday, the Americans traveled to Wichita and came away with a 3-2 victory. Chad Costello, Greger Hanson and Gary Steffes tallied Allen's goals and Gill made 30 saves on 32 shots to pick up the win.

Allen's weekend came to an end on Sunday with a 3-1 win at home against Rapid City. The Americans raced out to a 3-0 win just over 22 minutes into the game on goals from Trevor Ludwig, Brian McMillin and Austin Smith and Gill made it stand up from there, stopping 29 shots to earn his third win of the weekend.

Combs has carried the load offensively for Allen this season, notching at least one point in each of the club's nine games this season, good enough for a fifth-place tie in the league scoring race with 15 points (6g-9a).

Gill, who was the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs in helping lead Reading to the title, is second in the ECHL with a .931 save percentage and sixth with a 2.16 goals-against average, and he has allowed two goals or less in four of his six starts this season.

Allen is an action twice this weekend, hosting Brampton on Friday and Saturday.
