'Dogs Drop Americans 5-4 in OT

HAMILTON, ONT. - Hamilton Bulldogs forward T.J. Hensick scored 2:28 into overtime to lift the 'Dogs (6-7-2-0) to a 5-4 win over the Rochester Americans (7-8-1-0) on Sunday afternoon at FirstOntario Centre. The victory marked the first time the Bulldogs have won back-to-back games this season.
Rochester forward Luke Adam opened the scoring at 9:18 of the first period, with assists from forwards Matt Ellis and Tim Schaller.
Two minutes later, Hamilton forward Rene Bourque initiated a four-goals-in-eight-minutes outburst to put the 'Dogs ahead 4-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Bourque notched his first goal of the season at 11:35, followed by forward Jacob de la Rose's second marker of the season at 12:05, then defenceman Greg Pateryn's first of 2014-15 on the power play at 14:22, and finally forward Gabriel Dumont's sixth of the year on the power play at 19:47.
Forward Sven Andrighetto notched three first assists on the four first-period goals. Rounding out the helpers in the opening frame were Hensick, fellow forwards Charles Hudon and Eric Tangradi, as well as defenceman Mac Bennett.
The Americans erased the Bulldogs' three-goal lead in the second period with goals from Ellis and defencemen Chad Ruhwedel and Jake McCabe. Assists in the second period came from Adam and fellow forwards Joel Armia, Mikhail Grigorenko, Johan Larsson (2) and Phil Varone.
After a scoreless third period, Hensick buried a wrister for his third goal of the season to win it for the Bulldogs, 5-4. Bourque and defenceman Magnus Nygren had assists on the play.
Mike Condon made 39 saves on 43 shots for the Bulldogs in the win, while Andrey Makarov stopped 31 of 36 shots faced for the Americans in the loss.
Hamilton went 2-for-6 on the power play, while Rochester was 2-for-5 with a man advantage.

The 'Dogs will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 when they'll visit the Utica Comets at Utica Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m. Hamilton returns home on Friday, Nov. 21 when the club will host the Toronto Marlies at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.
