Blazers Edged in Shootout

The Kamloops Blazers (9-10-2-2) rallied in the third period to tie the game with 1-second left before falling in a shootout to the Everett Silvertips (14-2-2-1).

The Silvertips scored on their first chance of the game on a power play in the first period. Ben Betker's shot was tipped by Carson Stadnyk past goaltender Connor Ingram to make it 1-0 for the Silvertips.

The 'Tips took a two-goal lead with 1:25 to play in the first period. Nikita Scherbak made a terrific pass to Ivan Nikolishin and he slid a puck under Ingram for a 2-0 'Tips lead after the first period.

The Blazers did not let the two-goal deficit faze them as they played a strong second period.

Austin Lotz was having another strong game for the 'Tips in goal. He denied Mike Winther in tight on a 2-on-1 break and also had a big stop on Jesse Shynkaruk.

The Blazers outshot the 'Tips 10-6 in the second period.

The third period was the Blazers strongest. They controlled the play as they outshot the 'Tips 17-3 and had them on their heels all period.

Mike Winther broke Lotz's shutout bid with a power play goal with just over eight minutes remaining. He was able to slide a rebound past Lotz to make it a 2-1 game.

The Blazers continued to push, but were unsuccessful as time was winding down. They hemmed the 'Tips in their zone for the last few minutes of the game.

The Blazers finally scored the equalizer with 1.0 seconds left on the clock. Josh Connolly's shot found its way to the net and Deven Sideroff was able to push it past Lotz to tie the game at 2-2.

In overtime, the Blazers thought they had won it as a puck went off Cole Ully and in. Referee Sean Raphael was quick to wave it off. After a lengthy video review, the call on the ice stood and a shootout was needed.

Ingram and Lotz were unbeatable in the shootout as the first 12 shooters aside were stopped. Michael Fora scored the first goal of the shootout for the Blazers, but Carter Cochrane replied for the Silvertips.

Two shooters later, Kevin Davis iced it with a shot beating Ingram high on the glove side as the Silvertips escaped with a 3-2 win.

Connor Ingram stopped 21 of 23 shots and 13 of 15 shooters in the shootout, while Austin Lotz turned aside 30 of 32 shots and 14 of 15 shooters.

The Silvertips were 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Blazers were 1-for-3.

The Blazers next game is this Wednesday, November 19 when they host the Portland Winterhawks.
