Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Mike Angelidis netted the game winner in the third period, as the Syracuse Crunch scored three unanswered goals to top the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-2, Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The loss snapped the Pens' (9-6-1-0, 19 points) four-game winning streak, and was the team's first defeat at home since October 12 vs. the Manchester Monarchs. The win was the Crunch's third in a row, and extended Syracuse's (8-4-3-0, 19 points) point streak to seven games (5-0-2-0).

The game looked promising for the Pens as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Conor Sheary got the Pens on the board by picking up a Carter Rowney rebound and chipping the puck over a prone Kristers Gudlevskis at the 12:33 mark. Andrew Ebbett would score on the power play a minute and five seconds later to extend the Pens lead, but that was all of the scoring the team would manage on the night.

Yanni Gourde started the comeback by scoring the next two goals of the game. His first goal came at the 16:41 mark of the second period with the second coming on the power play at 2:16 mark of the third.

Angelidis scored the game-winner at the 10:11 mark of the third on a rebound shot. Jake Dotchin intercepted Derrick Pouliot's pass at the blue line and was able to rip a shot on goal. Pens' goaltender Matt Murray stopped the shot, but Angelidis came from the right of the goal to clean up the rebound and seal the game.

Saturday's loss marked the first time this season the Pens failed to win a game when scoring a power play goal. The Pens were 6-0-0-0 when scoring a power play goal prior to tonight's loss. The Pens ended the night 1-for-5 on the power play while Syracuse was 1-for-3.

The Pens wrap out their weekend tomorrow afternoon when they travel to GIANT Center to take on the Hershey Bears. They return home on Wednesday, November, 19 when they battle the Portland Pirates.
