Gersich Scores Again; Lancers Fall in Shootout 2-1

RALSTON, NE - The Lancers took to the ice in front of their second straight sellout crowd in a row on Saturday night with the Tri-City Storm. Shane Gersich scored his 10th goal of the year and 4th on the power-play but it was the Storm who put in two shootout goals to get the extra point with a 2-1 victory in front of 3,801 at Ralston Arena.
It didn't take long for Tri-City to get on the board and it was Chase Berger who got credit. Chris Wilkie and Mattias Gorensson teamed up for both assists as Berger let a shot go that beat goaltender Hayden Hawkey just 43 seconds into the opening period giving the Storm a 1-0 lead.
In the second period leader in power-play goals for the Lancers converted again to tie the game. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson took the puck inside the left wing circle and looked for an option. Shane Gersich sat in the right wing circle and took the pass from Forsbacka-Karlsson letting a one-timer go that beat a sprawling Alec Dillon for his 10th of the season, 4th on the power-play and evened the score up at one goal apiece. Assists came from Forsbacka-Karlsson, his 8th, and Niklas Folin, his 5th on the year.
After no scoring in the third period or the five minute overtime period, the two sides went to a shootout. In the first two rounds Tri-City converted and Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson was denied by Alec Dillon and the Storm earned the extra point with a 2-1 victory.
Hayden Hawkey stopped 24 shots on the night.
The Lancers hit the road for a single game next Friday night in Lincoln for the first time this year to battle the conference rival Stars.
