Everblades Slip Past Stingrays 5-4; Bellamy Adds Three Assists and Jakaitis Returns

North Charleston, S.C. - Forward Rob Bellamy recorded three assists and reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Year Jeff Jakaits returned to the lineup, but South Carolina Stingrays (3-7-0-3) fell to the Florida Everblades (8-2-0-1) 5-4 on Benefitfocus Night at the Stingrays Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Stingrays grabbed a 2-0 lead early in the opening period before Everblades fought back to make it 2-2 heading into the first intermission. Forward Joe Devin buried his Stingrays-leading fifth goal of the season 1:34 into the contest slipping a backhanded shot past Everblades goaltender Daniel Altshuller (W, 18 saves on 22 shots). Forwards Braden Pimm and Bellamy recorded assists. Rookie Branden Gracel gave the Stingrays their first shorthanded goal of the season at 5:58 outwaiting Altshuller and tucking the puck inside the right post. Bellamy and Jakaits, who made his first appearance of the season, added assists. The Everblades cut the lead in half at 9:15 shorthanded when forward Corey Trivino forced a turnover and beat Jakaitis (L, 27 saves on 32 shots) over the glove unassisted. Moments later, Trivino evened the score with his fifth goal of the season at 14:10.

In the second period the Everblades lit the lamp three times to take a 5-3 standing to the intermission break. Forward Alex Lavoie (3:41) and Jeff Costello (4:05) scored 24 seconds apart early in the stanza to take a two-goal advantage. Stingrays forward Derek DeBlois pulled the game back within one with his first professional goal at 9:12 catching a pass from forward Wayne Simpson and beating Altshuller with a wraparound inside the right post. Bellamy registered the second assist. Defenseman Cameron Burt reclaimed a two-goal advantage for the Everblades unassisted at 14:38 firing a shot from the right circle over the glove of Jakaitis.

The Stingrays mounted a comeback late in the third period off a tally from defenseman Lee Moffie with 1:08 to play, but the Everblades held on for the victory. DeBlois and forward Wayne Simpson acquired assists. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play, snapping a six-game power play goal scoring streak. The Everblades went 0-for-3.

The Stingrays wrap up the three-game in three-day weekend on Crews Subaru Family Sunday and Kid's Day tomorrow, Sunday, November 16 hosting the Greenville Road Warriors at 3:05 p.m. Kids tickets and kids meals are $5!
