Pirates Recall Carey from Gwinnett

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates today announced that they have recalled forward Greg Carey from their ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Carey, a 6-foot, 195 pound Hamilton, Ontario native, began the season with Portland. He played in five games and totaled eight penalty minutes with a minus-1 rating.

The 24 year-old rookie was reassigned to Gwinnett on November 1 and made his Gladiators debut the next day. In five games with Gwinnett, Carey scored five goals and three assists for eight points, with a plus-3 rating. Carey's total included a four-goal game this past Sunday on the road against the South Carolina Stingrays, which Gwinnett won 4-2.

Signed by the Arizona Coyotes as an undrafted free agent last March, Carey made his pro debut with Portland last season, scoring 1-1-2 in 13 games. He played four seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the St. Lawrence University Saints, where he was a Hobey Baker finalist each of the last two seasons.

Carey will rejoin the Pirates in time for their game tonight at the Cross Insurance Arena against the Albany Devils.
