Oklahoma City Barons News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Wild scored three times in the first period en route to a 4-2 victory over the Oklahoma City Barons Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

In what would be a decisive first period of play, Iowa's first goal was scored by Alex Gudbranson at the 6:46 mark when the Wild defenseman sent a shot from just inside the blue line that evaded Barons goalie Richard Bachman for his first AHL goal.

At the 16:03 mark of the first, Iowa extended its lead when an errant Barons pass in the Oklahoma City zone was picked off by the Wild's Ryan Walters who shuffled a pass to the high slot where Brett Sutter flipped a shot past Bachman, making the score 2-0 in favor of Iowa.

Twenty-six seconds later a boarding penalty to the Barons' C.J. Ludwig gave Iowa a power play opportunity they quickly converted when Danny Syvret fired a slap shot from the point that rebounded to Tyler Graovac who chipped the puck into the Oklahoma City net.

In the second period, Oklahoma City forged a comeback when Matt Ford corralled a shot by Brad Hunt that went just wide of the Wild net and sneaked a shot past Iowa goal tender Johan Gustafsson at 2:03 of the frame to make the score 3-1. Ford's goal came on Oklahoma City's only power play opportunity of the game, with the Wild's Stephane Veilleux serving 2:00 for a holding the stick penalty assessed at 1:13.

Kale Kessy got the Barons to within one goal at the 13:49 mark of the second when he jammed the rebound of an Anton Lander shot past Gustafsson, cutting the Wild's lead to 3-2.

Iowa once again claimed a two-goal lead at the 17:40 mark of the second period when Zack Mitchell sent a shot from the left circle that bounced off Bachman's pads and right to Marc Hagel, who backhanded the puck past Bachman from the opposite side of the net.

The teams played to a scoreless third period with each managing just eight shots-on-goal.

The Barons and Wild meet again Saturday, Nov. 15, in a 7 p.m. start at Wells Fargo Arena.
