Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, ME- The Albany Devils (7-3-1-3) shutout the Portland Pirates (7-7-0-0) by a tally of 4-0 Friday night at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. Penalties played a major factor in the game, with Portland having to play catch-up on ice more often than not. They amassed 5 minors in the third period; while the Devils went on to score 3 goals in that frame.

This game marked the first time the Pirates have been shutout in back-to-back games since January 7th and 8th of 2012. Since ending their five-game win streak, the Pirates have not scored a goal in over 141 minutes.

Albany netted their first of the night early on, at 4:10 in the first period. Joe Whitney was the goal scorer, with assists from Paul Thompson and Scott Timmins. The rest of the period, as well as most of the second passed uneventfully.

It was a chippy game, with both teams drawing several penalties, with players occasionally coming to blows. It was also a rough night injury-wise for the Pirates with both Jordan Szwarz and Henrik Samuelsson having to come off the ice.

The Devils stormed the third period with a goal at 0:35, scored by Reid Boucher, assisted by Mike Sislo and Tim Sestito. Sestito and Sislo both got their second points of the night at 11:18 when they scored and assisted, respectively. Albany lit the lamp for the final time at 18:59 in the third when Mark Fraser scored, assisted by Sestito.

Mike McKenna (3-5-0) manned the net for the Pirates, allowing 4 goals on 36 Albany shots. Scott Clemmensen (1-1-1) recorded his first shutout of the season for the Devils, saving all 31 shots he faced.

The Pirates and Devils will face off again Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Arena. The Pirates hit the road Sunday to take on the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. at 3:05 p.m.
