ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont had a goal and an assist, but it wasn't enough to get his club past the St. John's IceCaps (4-8-3-1) as the 'Dogs (4-7-2-0) fell 3-2 on Thursday evening at Mile One Centre in St. John's, N.L.
St. John's forward Patrice Cormier opened the scoring when he smacked home a loose puck from the lip of the crease on the power play at 5:54 of the first period. Defenceman Ben Chiarot and forward Eric O'Dell earned assists.
IceCaps forward Ryan Olsen gave his club a 2-0 lead just past the halfway point of the first period, assisted by Cormier and defenceman Keaton Ellerby.
Hamilton defenceman Magnus Nygren blasted home his second goal of the season with a slap shot from the point at 14:25 of the first period to close the gap to 2-1, with assists from defenceman Jarred Tinordi and Dumont.
Just less than four minutes into the third period, Dumont finished off a rebound from a wraparound attempt for his fifth goal of the season to tie the game 2-2. Forwards Jake Dowell and Daniel Carr had assists.
But, with nine minutes gone in the third period, Ellerby put a point shot past Hamilton goaltender Joey MacDonald for the game winner, 3-2. Forwards Austen Brassard and Nicolas Blanchard collected assists.
MacDonald ma de 25 saves on 28 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss, while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 25 of 27 shots faced for the IceCaps in the win.
Hamilton went 0-for-4 on the power play, while St. John's was 1-for-3 with a man advantage.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Nov. 14 when they'll visit the IceCaps again at Mile One Centre at 6 p.m. The 'Dogs will be back at home on Sunday, Nov. 16 when they'll host the Rochester Americans at FirstOntario Centre at 3 p.m.
