Heaney Re-Signs with Hammerheads

Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC has re-signed midfielder Will Heaney to a two-year deal leading into the 2015 USL PRO regular season. This will be Heaney's third consecutive season with the Hammerheads.
"I am thrilled to have signed a two-year deal with the club," said Heaney. "I love everything about Wilmington, the fans and the local community. I am extremely excited to see the direction of the club and feel privileged to be a part of it."
Heaney appeared in ten matches and scored two goals during the 2014 regular season, one of which was a lead contender for USL PRO's Goal of the Month.
"Sometimes you learn about people and players," said Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "At the end of the season last year, Will seemed frustrated with playing time and opportunities, but he never stopped training hard, he never disrespected the coach and he never brought any negativity to the locker room and the last week of training, despite his frustrations, were some of his best sessions. Will is a good soccer player and last year we learned about his character and we knew this was a guy that we wanted back."
A native of Maryport, Heaney made his debut with the Hammerheads during the 2013 USL PRO regular season after previously training with the club in 2012 as a trialist. Currently, Heaney remains in Wilmington during the offseason as a coach for Wilmington Hammerheads Youth FC.
