Sims Becomes 2nd Rivermen Call-Up of Young Season

PEORIA - Leading Peoria Rivermen goal scorer Jordan Sims has been called up to the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL, making the rookie the second Rivermen call-up of the young season.

Sims recorded three goals in six games for the Rivermen. He is a 5-11, 185-pound center from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He began his pro career in Peoria after four seasons with the University of Connecticut where he recorded 36 goals and 65 assists for 101 points in 146 games.

Sims is the second Rivermen to receive a call to the ECHL in the season's first month. Left wing Ben Warda was called up to the Evansville IceMen earlier this week after registering two goals and one assist for three points in his six Rivermen games.

The Rivermen remain on home ice this weekend as the Columbus Cottonmouths visit Carver Arena for games at 7:05 p.m. Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday. Saturday is Chicago Blackhawks Night featuring mascot Tommy Hawk with $2 Bud Light drafts and $2 hot dogs. Saturday is also Union Night, Alzheimers Night, Boy Scouts Night and City Link Stuff-a-Bus Night. Sunday is PJ Star Family Fun Day with $1 upper bowl tickets for kids 12 and under as well as $3 kids meals (hot dog, chips, drink) with Fun on the Run inflatables, Unique Twist balloon creations, Wild Style Design face painting and an appearance by Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. Fans are also invited to skate with the team after Sunday's game.
