OMAHA LANCERS vs. SIOUX FALLS STAMPEDE - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH

RECAP (2-1 W (SO))

Shane Gersich and Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson each scored in a shootout and Hayden Hawkey held his own as the Omaha Lancers picked up a 2-1 shootout victory on Saturday night in front of 5,274 fans at Denny Sanford Premier Center, extending their win streak to three games. After no scoring in the first period, it only took 20 seconds for Sioux Falls to strike first. Parker Tuomie fed a pass out to the blue line right after the opening faceoff. Lukas Buchta took the pass and let a low shot go that beat goaltender Hayden Hawkey for a 1-0 lead early in the frame. The secondary assist was credited to Troy Loggins. The Lancers answered back with a goal of their own less than seven minutes later off a costly turnover by the Stampede in their own zone. While trying to break the puck out of their defensive zone, Sioux Falls turned the puck over right onto the stick of newcomer Drew Best. After the turnover, Best took the puck around to the right side drawing goaltender Art Brey with him, then centered right to a wide open Anthony Angello who tapped in his third of the year at 6:49 of the period to even the score 1-1. After trading chances in the third period, extra time was needed to decide this one. In a shootout, Shane Gersich gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead in the first round of the shootout. After a Hayden Hawkey save, Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson scored to make it a 2-0 lead for Omaha in the shootout. Will Graber missed the net for Sioux Falls and the Lancers took the extra point with a 2-1 victory. Hawkey denied 24 of 25 shots on net in the victory.
