Blue Jays Sign 2014 Bisons All-Star Bobby Korecky to Minor League Contract

The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that they have signed RHP SCOTT COPELAND to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training. Toronto has also signed 2014 Bisons Most Valuable Pitcher RHP BOBBY KORECKY as well as RHP AUSTIN BIBENS-DIRKX and RHP MIKE LEE to minor league contracts.

Along with Korecky, Copeland and Bibens-Dirkx also pitched for the Bisons in 2014.

KORECKY, 35, was the Bisons 2014 Most Valuable Pitcher as well as a midseason and postseason International League All-Star. He made 55 appearances for Buffalo (2nd in IL) and finished tied for a league-best with 22 saves in only 24 chances. He finished the season in Buffalo with a 5-3 record and a 1.97 ERA, recording 60 strikeouts in only 64.0 innings of work.

Korecky threw scoreless baseball in each of his first 17 appearances of the year, a streak that lasted through his outing on May 16(2) against Gwinnett. The Bisons were 41-14 in the games the veteran appeared in. Korecky also posted an 8.10 ERA in two outings with the Blue Jays in 2014 (3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 SO).

COPELAND, 26, was 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA in four starts with the Bisons at the end of Buffalo's season. He threw seven shutout innings in each of his first two starts with the team, earning International League Pitcher-of-the-Week honors for August 11-17. The righty spent most of the season with New Hampshire (AA), where he was 8-8 with a 3.74 ERA in 27 games and 22 starts (139.2 IP, 89 SO).

BIBENS-DIRKX, 29, split the 2014 season between Buffalo and New Hampshire. He was promoted to the Bisons on five separate occasions with an overall record of 2-2 and a 3.89 ERA in 17 games and four starts (39.1 IP, 35 SO). In 17 games and 12 starts with New Hampshire, the righty was 6-4 with a 3.16 ERA and one save in 74.0 innings of work (57 SO).

LEE, 27, split last season between the Blue Jays and the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He spent most of the season with Mobile (AA), where he was 7-5 with a 4.49 ERA in 19 starts (104.1 IP, 61 SO) through the first four months of the season. He was also 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA in two starts for Triple-A Reno before being acquired by the Blue Jays in an early August trade. He made five starts for New Hampshire, going 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA (32.0 IP, 30 SO).
