Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The North American Hockey League has announced that Corpus Christi IceRays forward Wes Michaud was named the Easton South Division Star of the Week for the week of November 10. This is the first top honor an IceRays player has earned this season, and it's the fourth time a player has received either top or runner-up recognition.
Michaud claimed five points on the weekend, recording three goals and two assists. In Friday's 5-1 win over the Odessa Jackalopes, Michaud scored the game's first two goals in the first period and one assist, with the latter goal beating Jackalopes netminder Forbes Ploszaj on a one-on-one attempt and becoming the eventual game-winning tally. The very next night, Michaud collected two more points: an assist in the first period and a power play goal in the second period. That goal was also the game-winner.
"Wes has been consistent all season long," said IceRays Head Coach John Becanic. "It is nice for him to be recognized because there were some very worthy performances in the South Division. His success and hard work will hopefully lead to an opportunity at the next level."
Michaud now has nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points with four power play goals and a +6 plus/minus. That places him third in the NAHL in points, tied for fourth in assists, and tied for ninth in goals. He also leads the IceRays in every major category. Michaud received NAHL South Division 2nd Star of the Week for the week of October 27 and NAHL Player of the Month Runner-Up for the month of October.
"We just want to win each time we get out onto the ice, and I play the best I can every time," said Michaud. "We're really clicking as a line and as a team. We don't put an onus on ourselves, and that helps us out a lot. We are very appreciative of ourselves, giving up the body and playing defensively, which leads to more offense."
The IceRays return to action on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the first of 12 games for the South Texas Vo Tech Cup and a celebration of the American Bank Center's 10th Anniversary. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsJuice.com, FASTHockey.com, and on 87.7 FM in-arena.
