Davies' Scoreless Innings Streak Ends in Desert

November 10, 2014 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD-Zach Davies concluded an impressive scoreless innings streak and Garabez Rosa continued his tear at the plate during week five of the Arizona Fall League. With the championship game slated for Saturday night, Davies boats the fourth-best ERA for an AFL starter. Meanwhile, Rosa leads all O's prospects with a .297 batting average over 17 games for the Glendale Desert Dogs.

After a rocky start to the Fall League season, Davies has been dominant over the last three weeks. Last Tuesday, the Chandler, AZ native wrapped up a 15.1 inning scoreless stretch, when he allowed a first inning run to Surprise. The streak included three clean outings from October 18-30. A winner in two of his last four starts, Davies has given up just one run in his last 17 innings to cut his ERA from 7.73 to 2.08. In addition to being among the league's leaders in ERA, he is tied for fourth in strikeouts (20) along with Astros prospect Mark Appel.

Ranked the No. 6 prospect in the Orioles system according to Baseball America's recently released 2015 rankings, Davies went 10-7 with a 3.35 ERA with Double-A Bowie this past season after spending 2013 in Frederick. In 26 starts with the Keys, he finished 7-9 and placed 10th in the Carolina League with a 3.69 ERA.

Rosa has a five-game hitting streak entering Monday's action, which dates back to November 4. During that time, he is batting .316 (6-for-19) with a home run and two RBIs. A member of the Keys from 2011-12, Rosa is among the top 20 in the AFL in batting average and RBIs (11).

In the bullpen, 2014 Keys pitcher Mychal Givens has trimmed his ERA to 2.53 and has not given up a run in his last five innings. He has scattered only three hits during that time. With only four games remaining in the AFL regular season, Glendale is in last in the West Division with an 11-15-1 record.

Fans can get in the holiday spirit by participating in the team's annual Toys for Tots drive. Anyone who donates a toy will receive two tickets to a 2015 Keys game along with two hats. Donations can be made from 9-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The drive concludes on Saturday, December 13.

The Keys kickoff their 2015 season on April 9, when the Winston-Salem Dash visit Harry Grove Stadium. Ticket plans are now available, while every plan comes with the choice of a Zach Britton or a Kevin Gausman bobblehead. For more information, fans can contact an account manager at 301-815-9900.
