The Week That Was

---November 7th-RAPID CITY RUSH-3, WICHITA THUNDER 0 (RC-D. Battochio-23 SV Shutout)

After 41:50 of play, the Rush would eventually end their scoreless deadlock with the Thunder. In his first game back off of injured reserve, Justin Faryna would score on his old goaltender, Tim Boron, on a wrap around behind the net to give the Rush a 1-0 lead just 1:50 into the final period. Seemingly from there, the flood gates opened for the Rush as they started to insure their victory. Following Faryna's first tally of the year was Landon Oslanski for his second, scoring on a great give-and-go play with Jesse Schultz to extend the Rush lead to 2-0 with under 10 minutes to play in the game. Exactly 23 seconds later, Kyle Stroh would score his team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the Rush a 3-0 lead on assists from Scott Brannon and Dylan Clarke. Danny Battochio would remain perfect and keep the score 3-0 until the final buzzer, earning his second shutout of the season, also giving Coach Ferras a win in his 400th game as the head coach of the Rapid City Rush.

---November 8th-MISSOURI MAVERICKS 3, RAPID CITY RUSH-2 (MO-G. Bembridge-2 G)

It took five games, but the Missouri Mavericks finally had the chance to host an ECHL game at the Independence Event Center. The Rapid City Rush, concluding a two-game in two-night in two-city road trip, looked to play spoiler to the Mavericks home-opening festivities. The Rush, despite a quick start in the first, would ultimately fall to the Mavericks 3-2, with a three-goal second period powering the Mavericks to their first victory at home. The Rush jumped on the board within the first two and a half minutes thanks to Daniel Barczuk, but the Mavericks found life in the middle frame, ripping off 3 goals of their own from Kellin Tochkin and Garett Bembridge (twice). J.P. Chabot brought the Rush closer in the third with a power play goal just 1:25 into the period, but despite having 18:35 of regulation to tie the game, the Rush could not equalize the score and ultimately fell 3-2.

Notes and Numbers

Two Goose Eggs Over Easy Please - It has been mentioned before, but it took the Rush 56 games last season to earn their only shutout of the year: a 5-0 road win at Tulsa. In just 9 games, the Rush have eclipsed that total thanks to the stellar goaltending of Danny Battochio, who earned his second shutout of the season in just his sixth start on Friday night. Battochio is one shutout away from tying his single-season franchise record of 3 in a season for the Rush. Battochio is also one shutout away from the 10th of his career. This season, both Rush shutouts have come by not only 3-0 scores, but also away from home in the Quad Cities and in Wichita.

Connect Four - This week is the busiest week of the season to date for the Rush, as they play four games in six nights in three different cities. The Rush will take on the Wichita Thunder at home tomorrow night and Wednesday night, followed by their first tilt of the season against the Tulsa Oilers, and concluding with their third bout of the season with the Allen Americans.

Me First Me First! - It has been said in almost every pre-game team meeting for Coach Ferras that a great start is a big key to jumping out early against their opposition. Scoring first not only plays into that sentiment, but also separates itself as a very important factor to earning an important two points. When the Rush scores first, their record is 4-1-1 through 9 games played.

CRUNCHING NUMBERS - Last Week vs the Thunder and Mavericks

- 4 - the number of third period goals scored by the Rush this last weekend. In total on the season, the Rush have scored 25 goals, 13 of which have now come in the final frame of action. Only twice have the Rush failed to score in the third period of a game this season through 9 contests.

- 9 - the number of consecutive wins agains the Wichita Thunder dating back to the 2012/13 CHL Regular Season. Building upon this, the Rush have defeated the Thunder in 13 of their last 16 matchups dating back to November 9th, 2012

- 3 - the number of losses this season in which the Rush have given up multiple goals in a period, specifically 3. This accounts for 75% of the Rush's regular season losses. The losses against the Colorado Eagles, the Allen Americans, and the Missouri Mavericks saw the Rush allow 3 goals in either the first or second period en route to the loss. Despite this, the Rush only lost one of those games by a wide margin, with their comebacks falling just short in the other two games.
