Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Peoria, IL (Nov 9, 2014) - The Knoxville Ice Bears fell to the Peoria Rivermen 4-1 off of Josh Harris' hat trick.

Ice Bears dominated the first 10 minutes of the first period by out shooting their opponent 10-3. The tides shifted when the Ice Bears got into penalty trouble and the Riverman capitalized on back to back power players on goals from Garrett Vermeersch and Harris.

"Our special teams let us down again this afternoon. They have a great team in Peoria and were clearly better than us on the power play and penalty kill in both games this weekend," said Head Coach Craigen.

The second period was much more tightly contested as each goaltender was able to hold serve off of eight shots from both teams. Knoxville did have the opportunity to claw back into the game when they failed to capitalize on two power play chances. After two periods of play, the Rivermen still lead 2-0.

The Ice Bears cut their deficit in half at 5:11 into the final frame when Ben Power scored off the rebound from a Ryan Hill shot from the point. Rivermen goaltender Kyle Rank kicked the puck on to Power's stick when he was crashing the net. Despite having five man advantage opportunities including a 5 on 3 for 48 seconds, the Ice Bears were not able to draw even.

Harris scored on a breakaway when Francis Drolet was the last defender and bobbled the puck on the blue line sending him in on Knoxville's goaltender Bryan Hince uncontested. Harris also added an empty net goal 19:34.

"We are definitely going to use these two loses as learning tools to make us better moving forward," said Craigen.

Knoxville Ice Bears return to the Knoxville Civic Coliseum on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 when they host the Huntsville Havoc. The Ice Bears will be hosting their very first $1,0000 Thursday of the season. Tickets are available through ww.knoxvilletickets.com or by calling 865-656-4444.
