Blazers Fall 4-3 to Winterhawks in OT

The Kamloops Blazers (9-9-2-1) fell 4-3 in overtime to the Portland Winterhawks (8-11-0-2) on Saturday night.

The Winterhawks opened the scoring 3:56 into the game as Ethan Price scored his second goal of the season to give the 'Hawks an early lead.

The Blazers responded about four minutes later as Cole Ully won a puck battled and centered a pass to Deven Sideroff for his 10th goal of the season to make it 1-1.

Collin Shirley tied the game up scoring on a rebound. He was parked in front of the Winterhawks net and banged home a rebound off Ryan Rehill's shot to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead with 2:53 to play in the first period.

The Winterhawks tallied a late power play goal to tie the game up. Layne Viveiros shot beat goaltender Cole Kehler through a screen to make it 2-2 with 22 seconds to play in the first period.

The Blazers stuck with it and were the better team throughout playing 5-on-5. Quinn Benjafield gave the Blazers the lead scoring his first career WHL goal. The 16-year-old went to the net and put home a rebound to make it 3-2 Blazers.

The Winterhawks again tied the game up on the power play. Oliver Bjorkstrand was set up on a nice pass from Nic Petan to make it a 3-3 tie.

The Blazers were forced to kill off two more penalties in the third period as power plays were 7-1 in favour of the Winterhawks on the night.

In overtime, Nic Petan finished off a rush from Oliver Bjorkstrand 56 seconds in to make it a 4-3 final.

The Blazers outshot the Winterhawks 37-33. The Winterhawks were 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Blazers were 0-for-1.

Cole Kehler was solid between the pipes with 29 saves, while Brendan Burke stopped 34 shots for the Winterhawks.

The Blazers are back at home this Friday, November 14th when they host the Spokane Chiefs.
