Amarillo Bulls News Release

WICHITA FALLS, TX - When a team is winning the breaks go their way but when a team is not the breaks head in the other direction.

That could be said about the Amarillo Bulls in their game against the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Saturday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum. The Wildcats tallied a goal in the dying seconds of the first and then a key goal early in the third period to beat Amarillo 3-0.

The Bulls hit several goal posts and missed a couple of open nets during the course of the game and managed just 22 shots on goaltender David Zevnik who posted the shutout.

It was an evenly played opening 20 minutes between the two teams as the Bulls did their best to take the play to the Wildcats. The forward line of Riley Christensen, Cody Gylling and Mitch McPherson missed a great chance on a three on two. Tristan Rostagno had a long slap shot from the outside that goaltender David Zevnik had difficulty gloving it. The Wildcats scored a power play goal in the final 13 seconds of the first period to grab a 1-0 lead. Wichita Falls outshot Amarillo 9-6 in the first period.

There was no scoring in the second with the Bulls having the best chance on a 5-on-3 power play but couldn't generate enough scoring opportunities. Amarillo did a great job containing the Wildcats and not allowing them to use their long cross ice pass to move up the puck. The Wildcats outshot the Bulls 10-6 in the second period.

In the third period, the Bulls surrendered that second goal when the Wildcats converted on the power play right on the opening face-off. Amarillo had a huge chance when Elijiah Barriga hit the goal post on a breakaway. Later in the stanza Will Harrison's chance in the slot was denied by Zevnik and Addison Runney's opportunity missed the net.

The Wildcats rounded out the scoring with a goal midway through the period.

The Wichita Falls Wildcats outshot the Amarillo Bulls 37-22 including 17-10 in the third period. There were 11 combined power plays with the Wildcats scoring twice on six attempts.

Box Score - Wichita Falls 3 - Amarillo 0
