MANCHESTER, NH - Nick Shore scored two goals, including a short-handed tally, helping the Monarchs to a 2-1 win over the Springfield on Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The Monarchs (6-4-0-0) opened the scoring against the Falcons (6-6-1-0) when Shore streaked down the left side of the ice on a 2-on-1 with right wing Justin Auger. Shore looked across to Auger but chose to fire a quick wrist shot over Scott Munroe's stick-side shoulder to make it 1-0 Manchester at 15:16 in the first period.

"I was really hoping he would look to shoot instead of pass," Head Coach Mike Stothers said about Shore. "He likes to be the playmaker and set other people up, but he has a great shot, and you saw the accuracy in the way the play set up."

Shore tallied his second goal of the night, with his second short-handed goal of the season. Shore intercepted a D-to-D pass by the Falcons on the Monarchs' blue line. He then took to the Springfield zone uncontested and sent the puck home to Munroe's glove side at 17:01 of the second period.

Springfield center Sean Collins finally slipped one past Berube to make the score 2-1 Manchester, which would go on to be the final score.

Jean-Francois Berube (4-3-0) earned his fourth win of the season and Scott Munroe (1-2-0) suffered his second loss.

Manchester went 0-for-5 with the man advantage. Springfield was also held scoreless on four power play opportunities.

The Monarchs head to Portland on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game against the Pirates. Their next home game will be on Saturday when they play host to Providence on Mullets in Movember Night.

Notes:

Tonight was Shore's second multi-goal this season, the most such games on the team. Shore has two short-handed goals this year, the most on the club. MCH has scored first in eight of its 10 games this year, going 6-2-0-0 in those contests. The Monarchs are outscoring opponents 11-4 in the first period.
