Wyatt Johnson Scores Late; Rebels Win 5-4 in Portland

PORTLAND, OR - The Rebels needed some late game heroics to edge the Portland Winterhawks 5-4. Wyatt Johnson provided the game winner with 10 seconds remaining in the third period.

The teams came out flying in the first period. Both the Rebels and the Winterhawks scored twice in the first period. Conner Bleackley and Austin Strand scored for Red Deer, it was Alex Schoenborn and Miles Koules scored for Portland.

In the second period, the Rebels took a 4-2 lead on goals by Evan Polei and Wyatt Johnson. The Winterhawks tied it before the period was done on goals by Dominic Turgeon and Chase De Leo.

In the third period, the Winterhawks held the advantage in play, outshooting the Rebels 18-7. But Rebels goaltender Rylan Toth made many big saves. Johnson then got his second of the game to give the Rebels the 5-4 win.

The final shots were 48-31 for Portland, Toth made 44 saves in the Rebels net, Michael Bullion made 26 saves in the Winterhawks net. The Rebels were 1 for 2 on the power play and killed all 4 shorthanded situations.

The Rebels will end the road trip in Tri-City on Saturday, the broadcast on 106.7 The Drive begins at 7:55PM.
