Crunch Fall in Overtime to Admirals, 4-3

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Shea Theodore scored the game-winner for the Norfolk Admirals (5-6-0-0) in overtime Friday night in a 4-3 victory over the Crunch (4-4-2-0). The teams will battle again Saturday night at the War Memorial in the Crunch's second game of their three-in-three.

The game winner came 2:01 into the extra session on the Admirals first shot of the period. Nikita Nesterov turned the puck over in the Admirals offensive zone and Joseph Cramarossa fed Theodore the puck for the score.

The Crunch controlled the first period and a half of play, then after the Admirals tied it at two, Mike Angelidis scored his second goal of the season at the 1:02 mark of the third to give Syracuse a 3-2 lead.

The Crunch gave up their league-leading fifth shorthanded goal of the season to Cramarossa at the 6:44 mark of the final frame, to tie the game at three, and force the extra session.

J.P. Cote opened the scoring at the 3:51 mark of the first period, with his first goal in 69 games. The goal came after Angelidis and Henri Ikonen missed a one-timer opportunity, and the puck found Cote's stick for the tally from the left circle.

The goal was the third opening frame goal by the Crunch this season, second-least in the AHL. Norfolk has given up a league-worst 18 first period goals.

After Cote took care of the scoring in the first period, Jonathan Marchessault got the team's fourth power-play goal of the season 6:51 into the second. Nesterov and Mike Blunden assisted on the slapper from the point, and Jerome Samson set the screen in front of the net. Marchessault increased his team lead in goals (4) and points (9) with the power-play marker.

While the Crunch had early success on the power-play, they failed to score on their final four chances and finished 1-for-7, dropping to 4-for-48 this season. Norfolk went 0-for-4 Friday,and are 4-for-42 on the season.

Both teams rank at the top in penalty minutes per game and showed it in a 37 second stretch of the third period, where the teams traded three penalties. Syracuse is first in penalty minutes per game with 28.3, and Norfolk second at 27.3 The Admirals tallied 40 minutes, and the Crunch had 44 minutes of penalties.

Nic Kerdiles cut the lead in half at the 15:18 mark of the second period, Louis Leblanc recorded the assist.

Later in the second, Kerdiles tallied his second point of the game by assisting Chris Wagner's equalizer at the 19:44 mark. Brandon Yip added his third assist of the season on the goal.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 29 of 34 shots and fell to 1-2-2-0 on the season. The Crunch fired 24 shots at Igor Bobkov, who stopped 21. The former Crunch goalie got his first win of the season for the Admirals.
