Miracles Win Down the Stretch against the Rainmen

(Moncton, NB) The Moncton Miracles got their first win of the season against the Halifax Rainmen with a final score of 117-113 in front of 1,689 fans.

The Rainmen started the game with an early 8-0 lead over the Miracles and looked as if they would take off with the game. The Moncton squad was able to rally back and brought it within 3 at the end of the first quarter, 22-25.

The rest of the first half went basket for basket with Halifax maintaining the lead throughout the following 12 minutes of play. At the half Stanley Robinson and Chris Matthews each had 13 points for the Miracles while Emmanuel Jones had 19 for the Rainmen. Halifax led 60-54.

The Miracles came out strong in the third quarter and managed to tie the game up at 81-81. With the Miracles Nation helping to act as a sixth man to their team, the orange and grey team was able to continue to finish to the final buzzer. Three minutes left in the game, Troy Brewer knocked down back to back three's for the Miracles to make it a 103-108 ball game, still in favor of the Rainmen.

With 1:30 showing on the clock, Trayvon Lathan went two for two from the free throw line to take a 109-108 lead which they would not give up in the last seconds of play. This win is the earliest one to come in a season ever in Miracles history.

Stanley Robinson dominated the court with 28 points and a whopping 14 rebounds for his second double double this season. Trayvon Lathan followed with 26 points and 7 rebounds while Chris Matthews added in with 18. The Miracles bench also put up 47 points compared to Halifax's 27.

Emmanuel Jones was the force for the Rainmen with 33 points and 7 rebounds. Tyrone Watson dropped 17 points and pulled down 9 boards.

The Miracles travel to Halifax on Thursday, November 13th to take on the Rainmen in their first road game of the season. The Miracles next home game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19th against the Island Storm. Tip-off is 7pm at the Moncton Coliseum.
