Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO - November 7, 2014 - Orlando City Soccer Club Defenders Tyler Turner and Tommy Redding have been called up to the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team (USMNT) for an international trip to Spain, as they continue to prepare for U-20 FIFA World Cup qualifying in January 2015.
During their stay, the U-20 USMNT will compete in three matches at the U-21 International National Teams Football Tournament in Marbella, Spain.
The U.S. opens with a match against Russia's U-21 national team on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at San Pedro Stadium. The U.S. then takes on the Republic of Ireland's U-20s on Nov. 5 at San Pedro Stadium and Canada's U-20 national team on Nov. 18 at the Marbella Football Center.
The announcement marks Redding's first call-up to the U-20 team. The Oviedo, Fla. native, who was signed as Orlando City's first-ever Major League Soccer (MLS) Homegrown player earlier this year, has been a fixture in the national team system, representing the U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-18 teams.
Despite being only 17 years old, Redding appeared in 15 matches for the Lions during the 2014 season, logging over 1,000 minutes. The center-back gained valuable experience competing at the professional level on a weekly basis, including appearances against premier sides such as A.S. Roma and Sao Paulo F.C.
Turner was called up by Head Coach Tab Ramos for the U-20 USMNT's camp in September but was unable to attend due to an injury. City's 18-year-old right-back has represented the U-15, U-17, and U-18 national teams, wearing the captain's armband for the U-17 side.
Turner was a regular in the Lions' starting lineup during their final USL PRO season, recording 1,875 minutes in 24 matches. In addition, the defender notched one goal and two assists during his rookie season.
