Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips today announced the selection of both Ivan Nikolishin and Nikita Scherbak to play for Team Russia during the 2014 SUBWAY Super Series games against Team WHL next week. The Silvertips' two Moscow natives will be in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Monday, Nov. 10 and Brandon, Manitoba on Tuesday, Nov. 11 to join their countrymen at the start of the six-game series pitting a Russian All-Star team against the three Canadian Hockey League circuits.

Nikolishin and Scherbak will return to the Silvertips after the two games as most of Team Russia continues the series against Team OHL on Nov. 13 and 17 and concludes against Team QMJHL on Nov. 18 and 20. This season marks the 12th straight year that teams of CHL All-Stars have competed against Team Russia in preparation for the World Junior Hockey Championships. The series has been decided in the final game in each of the last four seasons, with the CHL emerging victorious for the ninth time in 2013 by a 10-8 margin in points.

"I think the Super Series presents a great opportunity for both Nikita and Ivan to establish themselves as strong candidates for spots on the Russian world junior team," said Silvertips General Manager Garry Davidson. "The chance to represent one's country is very exciting for all players, regardless of which country they're from. We hope this will be a positive experience for both of them and we wish them the best of luck."

Scherbak, 18, came to Everett from Saskatoon for his second WHL season in a September trade. Selected 26th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2014 NHL Draft, he currently leads the team in goals (10) and points (20) to tie for 16th in the league in scoring - despite missing the start of the season while in Montreal. Scherbak recorded his first career hat trick in Wednesday's 6-3 Silvertips win over the Red Deer Rebels at XFINITY Arena.

Nikolishin, 18, is now in his second year with the Silvertips after finishing second only to Scherbak in WHL rookie scoring a season ago. He leads the club with 12 assists and ranks third with 17 points in 15 games. Four of Nikolishin's five goals this season have been game-winners, two of which have come in overtime. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound center was selected by Everett in the second round (70th overall) of the 2013 CHL Import Draft.

The schedule for the 2014 SUBWAY Super Series is as follows:

Game 1 - Monday, November 10 at Saskatoon, SK

Game 2 - Tuesday, November 11 at Brandon, MB

Game 3 - Thursday, November 13 at Peterborough, ON

Game 4 - Monday, November 17 at Kingston, ON

Game 5 - Tuesday, November 18 at Bathurst, NB

Game 6 - Thursday, November 20 at Rimouski, QC

The Silvertips make a short trip over the border to visit the Vancouver Giants Friday night at 7:30, with radio broadcast coverage starting at 7:00 pm on Classic Country 1520 KXA. The 'Tips are then right back on home ice to take on the Spokane Chiefs Saturday night at 7:05 pm for our Veterans Day celebration.
