Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

EDMONTON, ALTA. - A match-up of two of the top goaltenders in the WHL turned out exactly as advertised Wednesday night.

The Edmonton Oil Kings (9-7-0-2) and Tristan Jarry were shut out 1-0 by Eric Comrie and the Tri-City Americans (10-8-0-0) in the only meeting of the season between the two netminders who will represent the Western Hockey League in the Subway Super Series against Team Russia.

"I think we're similar teams. We rely heavily on our goaltenders, and it was a defensive struggle tonight," said Oil Kings head coach Steve Hamilton. "There wasn't a whole ton of premium offensive chances."

Comrie made 25 saves for his first shutout of the season, while Jarry stopped 20 of 21 shots he faced, allowing a lone power play goal to Beau McCue in the third period.

The Oil Kings are struggling to find their scoring touch on this road trip, with just one goal in their last three games, all losses as Edmonton has now dropped five in a row.

"We just have to continue to be positive in our approach and try to work our way through this," Hamilton said. "I'd like us to continue to generate second and third chance opportunities."

The game's only goal came on a Tri-City power play as Richard Nezejchleb corralled a rebound in the corner and fired a quick pass to McCue in the slot, who buried it behind Jarry. The Americans finished 1-3 with the man advantage, while Edmonton was 0-2.

The Oil Kings will continue their road trip Friday night as the visit the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook.
