A Look Ahead: Generals vs. Petes

The oldest OHL rivalry comes to life this Sunday, Nov. 9 when the Oshawa Generals take on the Peterborough Petes in a 6:05 p.m. match-up at the General Motors Centre.

Sunday is a special evening as it is our annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. For the month of November, players are wearing patches on their jerseys, honouring the Juno Beach Anniversary. One of these game worn jerseys will be auctioned off at the end of the month, with the funds supporting the Juno Beach Centre. Five veterans will be a part of Sunday's opening ceremony and puck drop, and a moment of silence will be observed to honour Remembrance Day.

Sunday's game is presented by the Home Depot and they will be giving out one $100 gift card each period along with 800 pairs of texting gloves. Sunday is the first time that Oshawa and Peterborough will meet during the regular season. The last time the two teams played against each other was during the pre-season. The Generals dropped their first exhibition game 5-2 to the Petes. The team redeemed themselves in the second game when they defeated Peterborough 5-4 in a shootout.

The Peterborough Petes (4-6-1-2) currently sit eighth in the Eastern Conference. Nick Ritchie, a 6'3", 229 lb. left-winger is playing his fourth season with the Petes and currently leads the team in scoring with 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 12 games played. Ritchie was drafted 10th overall to the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft. Eric Cornel, a right-winger in his third season with the Petes follows closely behind Ritchie with 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 13 games played. He was drafted in the second round, 44th overall to the Buffalo Sabres in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Greg Betzold and Hunter Garlent have each scored 12 points respectively this season. Look out for all of these players this Sunday.

The Oshawa Generals (12-3-1-0) are entering Sunday's game coming of a home and home sweep over the Belleville Bulls and currently lead the Eastern Conference with 27 points. Cole Cassels is still at the top of Generals scoring with 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists) in 16 games played. Michael Dal Colle has moved up to second in scoring and has now scored 20 points in only 12 games played. Hunter Smith, Tobias Lindberg, and Mitchell Vande Sompel have all scored 19 points respectively. Saturday's game in Belleville was a 5-2 win for the Generals in a very physical game. On Sunday, the two teams took to the ice at the GM Centre and the Generals battled to get back in the game after being at a 3-1 deficit entering the third period. Two quick goals scored in the first two minutes of the third period put the game at 3-3. The game ended in a tie and the Generals and Bulls got ready for overtime. Following the scoreless overtime, an intense eight round shootout took place and Mitchell Vande Sompel scored the game winning goal for the Generals. Kenny Appleby had another impressive game and helped secure the win for the Generals, allowing only two of the eight shootout shots past him. The Generals have had an amazing start to the season and Sunday's game is one that you don't want to miss! Get your tickets now.
