Sound Tigers Top Norfolk in Morning Game

Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - CJ Stretch, Alan Quine, and Justin Courtnall each tallied a goal and Harry Zolnierczyk registered two points as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Norfolk Admirals, 3-1 on Wednesday morning at Webster Bank Arena.

The dominant start to the Sound Tigers offensive play can largely be attributed to the 8,000+ in attendance at Webster Bank Arena, as Bridgeport hosted many area schools for the game. The kids provided the team with a high-octane and energetic environment that led to a physical style of play.

Stretch got the Sound Tigers on the board early with a power play tally, with Quine following up later in the first with a beautiful backhand finish on a 3-on-1. Courtnall concluded the scoring with a short-handed goal that led to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Late in the second, Scott Mayfield was called for a five-minute boarding penalty and given a game-misconduct. The Sound Tigers were forced to play five-on-three with Johan Sundstrom already in the box, but the penalty kill was stellar as the Sound Tigers did not allow a goal.

In the third, Admirals forward John Kurtz scored his first goal of the season short-handed to cut the deficit to two for Norfolk. The goal was not enough though as the Admirals weren't able to bounce back and add to their early third period marker.

Kevin Poulin recorded the win with 31 saves and was named the first star of the game. The Sound Tigers power play went 1-for-3 while they went 6-for-6 on the PK with a short-handed goal. The team will next host Albany for two games this weekend, starting with a game Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Notes: Justin Courtnall scored his first goal as a Sound Tiger...Courtnall's goal was the second short-handed goal in as many games for the Sound Tigers, with Chris Langkow recording the other...Alan Quine is now riding a five-game point streak...Zolnierczyk was named the game's second star and Courtnall the third star.
