Sudbury Acquires Duchesne

November 4, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sudbury Wolves News Release

The Sudbury Wolves acquired 18-year-old defenceman Jonathan Duchesne from the Ottawa 67s in return for 19-year-old defenceman Evan de Haan and a 5th round draft pick.

Duchesne is a former 2nd round pick of the Ottawa 67s and the Brampton native stands 6', 200 lbs. Duchesne is described as a solid defensive defenceman that plays a physical style. Duchesne also has a hard point shot as the rearguard scored six goals and added eight assists last season for 14 points and 83 minutes in penalties with the 67s. "We felt that we needed to add more of a physical presence on our blueline and we know that Jonathon will provide that dimension" notes Wolves' GM Blaine Smith.

In de Haan, the Wolves are moving a talented defenceman that is also playing in his third season in the OHL. The Ottawa native will be returning home and is expected to add more offence to the 67s blueline.

"Evan is an outstanding young man and a talented player and we want to thank Evan for everything that he has done for the Sudbury Wolves organization" notes Wolves' GM Blaine Smith. In 13 games this season, de Haan has three assists and 11 minutes in penalties.

The players are expected to join their respective new teams at practice on Wednesday.
