Hershey Bears News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Nick Shore scored two goals, including the game-winner and a shorthanded insurance tally, and Patrik Bartosak stopped 27 shots to propel the Manchester Monarchs to a 3-1 victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Arena.

Just 1:48 into the contest, the Monarchs led a rush up ice. Jordan Weal got by Kris Newbury and the Bears center was forced to take a penalty to impede Weal's progress. Weal was awarded a penalty shot, and converted with a low shot under the glove of Philipp Grubauer, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Newbury would then head to the Monarchs net, grab a puck that was poke-checked to him by Casey Wellman and one-hand a shot behind Bartosak at 8:03 for the equalizer.

Shore began his heroics in the second period by taking a long pass from Michael Mersch at center ice. He broke into the Hershey zone, warding off a Bears defenseman in the process, and snapped a quick backhand-to-forehand shot past Grubauer from in close at 8:39.

Hershey was working a third-period power play and earned several chances by virtue of quick passing, but instead it was Manchester to capitalize. Shore forced a giveaway just inside the Hershey blue line, and then skated one-on-three toward Grubauer. Shore got off a shot that banked off of Grubauer's left pad and then off of the right goal post. But before anyone could react, Shore got a second chance and backhanded the puck in at 10:27 for a 3-1 lead that the hosts protected to the finish.

Grubauer made 19 saves but saw his record even out at 3-3-0. Bartosak improved to 2-1-0 with the win.
