 Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League

Pelletier suspended for 3 games

November 2, 2014 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Raymond Bolduc, today suspended Julien Pelletier of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles for 3 games. The suspension was handed out following an incident that occurred on October 30th, against the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Here is the rationale that led to the decision:

There was a faceoff to the left of the Saint John goaltender that was won by the Sea Dogs centre man.

The defenseman on the boards recovered the puck and headed towards behind the net.

He shot the puck around the board towards his right-winger.

As soon as the puck left his stick, the player at fault hit him against the boards and at the end of the contact, knocked over his opponent.

The player used his leg and right arm to knock his opponent backwards.

The player at fault didn't have to make this dangerous gesture.

His opponent fell head first into the boards. He was cut and suffered a concussion.

This was the first offense of the player at fault.

The Director of Player Safety took this decision after having viewed videos of the incident, considered the officials report, spoken to the players and organizations involved and after consulting the Advisory Committee for disciplinary action."¨

The video will be available on the League's website shortly.
