Royals Take Down Americans 4-1

Victoria, B.C.- The Tri-City Americans (8-8-0-0, 16 pts) extended its losing streak to four games, falling to the Victoria Royals (9-7-1-0, 19 pts) 4-1 in front of 4,004 fans at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday night.

Each team had a good number of opportunities throughout the first period, with the Americans having four chances on the man advantage and the Royals receiving three chances on the power play. Victoria broke through late in the period on the power play, as Austin Carroll was able to put home a loose puck in front of the net to make it 1-0 Royals. But Tri-City was able to tie the game before the end of the first period, as Maxwell James scored his first career WHL goal, firing a wrist shot into the back of the net to tie the game at one. The Americans were outshot 8-6 in the first period, but the game was tied after the first period.

Victoria came out and was able to gain the lead. Axel Blomqvist was able to get the puck past Eric Comrie to make it 2-1 Royals early in the second period. The Americans outshot the Royals 9-7 in the second period, but went into the third period down by a goal.

The Royals came out and grabbed the momentum early as Blomqvist scored his second goal of the night 2:52 into the third on the power play to make it 3-1 Victoria. The Americans pressed to get a goal and get back into the game, but a Logan Fisher empty net goal sealed the victory for Victoria late in the third period.

The Americans have lost four straight games in Victoria dating back to the 2012-13 season.

Tri-City was 0-for-4 on the power play with 19 penalty minutes, while Victoria was 2-for-4 with the man advantage and 21 penalty minutes.

Americans goaltender Eric Comrie made 20 saves in a losing effort, while Victoria's Coleman Vollrath also had 20 saves in a win.

The Americans don't have long to think about this game, as they are right back at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tomorrow to take on the Royals in a matinee game, with puck drop scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Fans can watch the game through WHL Live or at Kimo's, the Americans home away from home. The game will be broadcast on NewsTalk 870, starting at 12:45 p.m.
