P-Bruins Defeat Springfield Falcons, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, MA. -The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons tonight in their first meeting of the season at the Mass Mutual Center.

The P-Bruins got off to an early lead. At just 1:11, Steve Eminger notched a goal to put the P-Bruins up 1-0. The goal, assisted by Ryan Spooner and Brian Ferlin was Eminger's first for the season. The P-Bruins struck again just minutes later when Anthony Camara got one by Springfield's Scott Munroe at 3:05. Tyler Randell and Ethan Werek were credited with the assists, and the P-Bruins took the 2-0 lead. But not long after, the Falcons capitalized on the power play at 8:16 when Jerry D'Amigo notched his first goal of the season. Ryan Craig and Kerby Rychel were credited with the assists. To finish off the action packed first period, Chris Breen and Ryan Craig dropped the gloves after Craig crashed into the net and knocking P-Bruins goaltender Jeremy Smith down.

While the second period turned out to be a scoreless one, both teams continued to bring the intensity. Providence and Springfield matched each other with 6 shots on goal each and at the end of the period the score remained 2-1.

The P-Bruins came out of the locker room for the third period determined to maintain their lead. They sealed the deal at 13:23, when Tommy Cross's unassisted wrist shot found its way to the back of the net. The goal was Cross's of the season. That would be the final goal of the night for either team and the P-Bruins would close this one out with a final score of 3-1.

The Providence Bruins are an American Hockey League franchise and the top affiliate of the NHL's Boston Bruins. Since moving to Providence in 1992 the P-Bruins have been among the league leaders in regular season attendance. On the ice the team has enjoyed similar success, having won five division titles, three regular season titles and the Calder Cup in 1999.
