Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - Second year Lancers defenseman Brendan Smith announced today that he has committed to nationally ranked Cornell University, members of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

"I am incredibly excited to commit to a school like Cornell," said Smith. "Cornell was an easy choice due to their rich tradition on and off the ice. My mom also went to Cornell so that helped in the decision process. I would not be where I am at without the Lancers organization, especially the coaching staff. Every day I come to the rink they make me a better player and person. I can't thank them enough."

Smith began his USHL career with the Lancers last season, picking up two assists in 34 games played and picked up his first USHL goal in the playoffs for Omaha. This season in just ten games played so far, the Centennial, CO born defender has a goal and two assists.

"We're thrilled for Brendan," said Lancers Head Coach Brian Kaufman. "He's already established himself as a reliable defenseman for us and his skill set will translate well to the college game."

The Cornell Big Red came out ranked 18th in the nation and have competed in two exhibition games for far this year defeating both the US-U18 Team and Carleton with 3-2 victories. They open up NCAA play against the University of Nebraska-Omaha this Friday and Saturday night inside Lynah Rink.

The Lancers hit the road again for just one game this weekend. A visit to Tyson Events Center is on tap this Friday to battle the Sioux City Musketeers. Puck drops at 7:05PM, with LIVE coverage beginning at 6:50PM with the Valpak Pregame Show on The Mighty 1290 KOIL, www.mighty1290koil.com, and www.fasthockey.com.
