Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, announced they have signed a contract with left handed pitcher Ryan Demmin, and signed extensions with first baseman Aaron Dudley and left handed pitcher Stephen Frey.

Demmin joins the CornBelters for his second time after spending part of the 2013 and all of the 2014 seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. In 2013, Demmin's first season with the CornBelters, he posted a 2.20 ERA with a 6-5 record before getting his contract purchased by the Phillies. Last season, the six-foot-one-inch Demmin, saw time with the Clearwater Threshers (Class High-A) and the Reading Fightin Phils (Class Double-A). He finished the 2014 season with a combined 4.70 ERA and a 3-3 record. He posted 36 strikeouts and nine walks in 46 innings pitched.

"Ryan can be the guy to anchor our starting rotation. He's a piece of the puzzle we were missing last year," said CornBelters Field Manager Brooks Carey. "He's the type of pitcher that will set the bar high for the rest of our staff."

The 2015 season will be the third season with the CornBelters for Dudley. Last season was his best offensive season hitting .316 which was second on the team. Selected as a mid-season All-Star, Dudley finished with a team high 28 doubles while adding 14 home runs and 64 RBI. The Toledo, Oh. native is entering his sixth year in professional baseball.

"We had some really good offensive years from a bunch of our guys and Aaron surely had one as good as anybody," said Carey. "He's a consistent producer day in and day out that we can count on."

Frey is returning to the CornBelters for his second season. The left handed pitcher appeared in 19 games after joining the Belters on July 22. Frey recorded 21 strikeouts in just over 18 innings pitched. He is a 2014 graduate of Monmouth University.

"The experience Frey got last year was invaluable. He will be a key piece to our bullpen this season," said Carey.
