Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
After a long drive back from Saskatoon the Hawks will return to practice tomorrow, but it was a successful trip through the East Division, having won four of the six games. The team averaged 4.5 goals per game on the trip, while giving up two or fewer goals in the four wins. The Hawks were especially strong late in the last two games, outscoring Prince Albert and Saskatoon by a combined 7-0 in the third periods of the wins Friday and Saturday.
The Winterhawks' trip featured numerous players with outstanding offensive performances:
Chase De Leo had points in all six games on the trip, with 11 total points in the six games. He continues to lead the team with 20 points, which ties him for fifth in the league.
Oliver Bjorkstrand had the Hawks' first hat trick of the season with three third period goals Saturday in Saskatoon. He had eight points on the trip and is second on the team with 15 points this season.
Miles Koules had points in five of the six games, for eight total on the trip. He has 10 points in 11 games with the Hawks since being acquired from the Medicine Hat Tigers last month.
Dominic Turgeon also had points in five of six games in the East Division, with nine total points on the trip.
With the Hawks back at home, their next two opponents will be rematches of their last two playoff series. On Thursday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Saturday at the Moda Center, Portland hosts the Kelowna Rockets in a rematch of last year's Western Conference Final. Then on Sunday the Hawks host the Edmonton Oil Kings at 5 p.m. at the Coliseum, in a rematch of the last three WHL championship series. Tickets to all games are available at Winterhawks.com.
