October 27, 2014 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Nashville Venom News Release

Nashville, TN -The Nashville Venom are it again by signing several players to bolster their roster for the 2015 Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) season. General Manager/Head Coach Billy Back started this offseason by re-signing a number of contributors from his 2014 PIFL championship team in the likes of PIFL Offensive Player of the Year WR Philip Barnett, PIFL Championship Game MVP QB Charles McCullum, and All PIFL First Team Performer WR Jordan Jolly.

Not resting on their laurels, the team also signed players from outside the organization in former Antioch High School alums in WR Dontel Watkins who also played for the Tennessee Titans and DL Jeremy Buchanan.

Former University of Tennessee LB Dorian Davis, former University of Memphis DL Steven Turner and former Eastern New Mexico OL Lorenzo Murphy are the latest to sign on with the PIFL champions.

The 6'2 245 pound Davis was a three-sport athlete when he was in High School in Iowa City, Iowa. He was first-team all state during his senior year in football. He went on to play at the University of Tennessee where he played in 16 games mostly on special teams.

Turner, a 6'3 265 pound lineman from Brownsville, TN., lettered all four years for the Tigers. He played in 46 games and totaled 70 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and an interception. Murphy is a massive 6'5 330 pound lineman who also lettered all four years in college. Last year he earned an all league award playing for the Amarillo Venom of the LSFL.

"We are big on having guys that have played in big situations in their career and these players have," said Back. Dorian is a complete player that is strong in his straight ahead tackling ability. Steve is extremely versatile. We will play him on the defensive line as well as linebacker and at running back. Lorenzo will be a force on the offensive line. His size, footwork and strength will allow our quarterback to stay clean. These three players will make us a much better team."

The Venom held a tryout early this month in Ohio. Coach Back and his staff were able to find more talent signing former Capitol (OH.) University WR Alex Coleman and former Emporia State (KS.) University LB Vince Harris. Coleman of Columbus, OH played in 20 games over two seasons for Capitol where he had 800 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Harris, a native of Cincinnati played in three seasons for the Hornets tallying over 100 tackles for his career.
