SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Knoxville Ice Bears (2-0-0-0) scored four unanswered goals in the final two periods to defeat the Mississippi RiverKings (0-2-0-0), 5-1, Saturday night at the Landers Center.

The Ice Bears took a first-period lead with a shorthanded goal 10:48 into the first period. Ryan Salvis picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and raced in on a breakaway, beating goaltender Peter Di Salvo five hole for a 1-0 lead. The RiverKings responded with 3:52 to play in the period as Leo Thomas scored on a breakaway of his own. He received a pass from Andrew Randazzo and went down the right side before flipping a backhand shot past Braely Torris to knot the score at one on his first of the season.

The Ice Bears took command in the second period. Salvis scored his second of the game on a quick shot from the slot just 3:55 into the period. David Segal doubled the Ice Bears lead with a goal from a similar position in the slot at 5:28 of the second, making it 3-1.

In the third period the Ice Bears salted the game away with two late goals. Eric Satim finished off a feed from Salvis on the doorstep to make it 4-1 with 5:32 to play in the third. Just over two minutes later those two started a pass play that resulted in Francis Drolet jamming in the puck from the right post with 3:30 left in the game, making it 5-1.

Di Salvo got the start for the RiverKings and he made 28 saves on 33 shots and took the loss.
