Tomahawks Outshoot Ice Miners, Fall in Season Opener 5-4

The Johnstown Tomahawks outshot the Keystone Ice Miners 31-20, but a pair of third period goals gave the Ice Miners a 5-4 victory on Saturday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
Josh Bowes got the Tomahawks on the board, scoring his first goal of the season 4:16 into the first period. Dakoda Menslage earned the assist on the goal.
Keystone tied the game at 11:46, as Michael Maiden scored his second goal of the season. Nick LeSage and Lucas Little took the assists on the goal.
Late in the period, the Ice Miners took the lead, as Little scored on a shot from between the circles with 1:32 remaining on the clock.
Casey Linkenheld tied the game for Johnstown 9:26 into the second period, as his shot from the right face-off circle made its way through the legs of Keystone goaltender Nick Kossoff. Cam Bleck and Jake Houston got the assists on Linkenheld's first goal of the season.
Keystone regained the lead, as Jon Hall's shot made it over the right shoulder of Tomahawks goaltender Ryan Bednard and into the top corner of the goal at 10:25.
The Tomahawks tied the game at three, when Bleck chipped the puck between the skate of Kossoff and the post at 12:06. Zach Zech earned his second assist of the season on the power-play goal.
The Ice Miners regained the lead for good in the third period, as Vito Aluia scored at 7:21. They made it a 5-3 game later in the period, as Noah Batis scored at 12:36.
Andrew Romano gave the Tomahawks one final goal on the power-play as time expired, setting the final score at 5-4.
Kossoff earned the win, stopping 27 of 31 shots. Bednard took the loss stopping 15 of 20 shots.
