The Sarnia Sting lost another close one to the Belleville Bulls Friday night.

But at least this time around they gained a valuable point out of it.

The Bulls defeated Sarnia 4-3 in a shootout in front of 2,575 fans at the RBC Centre.

Belleville scored twice in the shootout while Sarnia failed to get a goal on two shots.

It was the second time in six days the two clubs had meant with Belleville winning the opener 3-2, scoring the winning goal with 29 seconds left in regulation time.

And like the game in Belleville, Sarnia held a wide margin on shots on goal, this time 46-27.

"The Hockey Gods aren't with us right now," said Sting head coach, Trevor Letowski. "We probably deserved a better fate. But we got a point and there were lots of positives for us. I think the fans can feel that. I know the coaching staff does."

He added, "That's a good team over there. But I thought we dictated the play and the game could have gone either way. We've executed our game plan most nights and probably should have a couple of more wins. But I'm happy with the way we played."

The shootout loss leaves the Sting with a 4-5-1-1 record in the Ontario Hockey League.

After a scoreless first period, the teams traded four goals in the second stanza.

Belleville opened the scoring at 33:38 of period when Remi Elie scored. on a power play. But Sarnia tied the game a minute and a half later when Pavel Zacha banged home a centering pass from Jordan Kyrou. It was Zacha's fifth goal of the season.

The Bulls regained the lead at 7:36 on a nice individual effort from Jordan Subban as he circled the net and snapped a shot over the shoulder of Sting goalie Justin Fazio.

Sarnia bounced back to even the score a 2-2 two minutes later when Brandon Lindberg scored his second of the year whipping a low wrist shot past goalie Charlie Graham. Troy Lajeunesse assisted.

The Sting took their one and only lead of the game at 3:25 of the third period. Birthday boy, Anthony DeAngelo got his second of the year.

DeAngelo, who was celebrating with 19th birthday, took a pass from Vladislav Kodola in the slot, waited for the goalie to go down and then slipped a backhand into the open corner.

The lead lasted only about five minutes as Belleville's Justin Lemcke tied the game on a low shot from close range.

Sarnia was forced to kill off a Bulls power play in the first minute of overtime. Fazio made three solid saves.

The Sting had four shots in overtime, three of them late, but was unable to score.

Letowski said it was tough running into another hot goalie.

"It's kind of a co-incidence to face two different goalies from the same team back-to-back. That's hockey. Their guy tonight had a great effort and gave them a chance to get points."

The Sting returns to action Saturday night when they host the Ottawa 67s. Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the RBC Centre.

Tickets for the game are on sale at the RBC Box Office, by calling 519-541-1717 or going online at Sarniasting.com
