Minnesota United Look to Extend Home Unbeaten Streak to Fourteen

October 24, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL) - Minnesota United FC News Release

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Friday, October 24th, 2014) -- Minnesota United clinched the top seed in the North American Soccer League last Saturday with a scoreless draw against the Cosmos at the National Sports Center Stadium. The Loons are now just one point away from securing their third trophy this year* - the Fall Season Championship - with two matches remaining in the regular season. With eyes firmly set on a Minnesota Championship, United (10W-4T-2L, 34pts) battles second place San Antonio (9W-2T-5L, 29pts) looking to extend its home unbeaten streak to 14 games and capture both the Spring and Fall titles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT. Fans can tune in live on KSTC45-TV or NASLLive.com.

Minnesota United Head Coach Manny Lagos knows what is at stake in the final two matches of the NASL regular season: "It's important that we manage these last two weeks the same way we did the entire second half of the season, by looking at the stuff we did last week and making sure that we're evolving to get better this week."

A lot is riding on Saturday night's match. The Scorpions are resting in second place in both the Fall and overall standings, and a win will keep them in contention for the Fall Season crown and help secure a home playoff game in The Championship.

"Against a team we know is in the playoffs already, a good team that has a lot of good players, it will be a challenge for us," said Lagos. "I think that's the goal - to make sure that we are getting better from last week, and making sure that we are also getting sharper in the right ways so that in a couple of weeks' time we'll be ready to play."

Minnesota United has been held scoreless in two of its last three matches, and that will be something Coach Lagos looks to improve heading into this weekend's match against the Scorpions. Both Miguel Ibarra and Rafael Burgos have returned from their time away with their respective national teams and will help the Loons find the back of the net more consistently.

United's recent offensive struggles aside, United is coming off a clean sheet last week. United's defenders are full of confidence ahead of this Saturday's match. The Scorpions have yet to net a goal against the Loon back line this year.

This Saturday's match also marks "Zubaz-Palooza." Fans had the chance to secure a custom pair of Minnesota United Zubaz with their ticket purchase. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at the National Sports Center Stadium. Find tickets at mnunitedfc.com/tickets.

*Minnesota United has won the Spring Season Championship and the Woosnam Supporter's Cup this season.
