Dallas Sidekicks Host Missouri in Saturday Home Opener at Allen Event Center

October 23, 2014 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Dallas Sidekicks News Release

Allen, Texas (Oct. 23, 2014) - The Dallas Sidekicks will kick off their 2014-15 season this Saturday, October 25 at Allen Event Center. The 7 p.m. kickoff vs. the Missouri Comets will officially mark the beginning of the newly formed Major Arena Soccer League and will be the franchise's 30th home opener.

Dallas was hard at work throughout the offseason looking to repeat the success of the past two seasons, where they have earned an overall regular season record of 27-5 and earned consecutive trips to the playoffs. With an average of 15 goals per game last season, the team's offence hopes to continue their dominance with returning high-scoring forwards Jamie Lovegrove and Shaun David, joined by former MISL players Freddy Moojen and Angel Rivillo. Last year's leading scorer Nestor Hernandez will be out until December, a recent knee surgery keeping him on the sidelines. Contributing to the defense will be another MISL transplant and former Sidekick (from 2003-2004) Fabinho. Goalkeepers Sagu and Milo will return to anchor the team in goal. Head Coach Tatu hopes to lead the team to continue their flawless record at Allen Event Center, where the Sidekicks have never lost a regular season match.

"We have very high expectations for ourselves," Tatu said. "Bringing a championship back to Dallas is our focus, and some of the moves we made over the summer are a positive step. I know our players are excited to get back in front of the fans, who really make it special for us with their support."

Last season the Missouri Comets claimed the MISL Championship, defeating the Baltimore Blast 6-4 in Game Three of the MISL Championship Series. Much of their winning roster has returned for the 2014-15 season, and the team will be a formidable opponent for the Sidekicks' first matchup of the season.

"We know this year is going to be tough, and we start out with one of the best teams in the league," Tatu said. "It's going to be a challenge for sure, but we're excited to get started."

Saturday also marks the inaugural game of the Major Arena Soccer League. Earlier this summer, a total of 23 teams from the PASL and MISL joined forces to become the MASL, a united super league spanning across the United States and Mexico. This move ups the quality of competition and spreads the league from coast to coast. The Sidekicks were placed in the Southern Division along with the Monterrey Flash, Hidalgo La Fiera, Brownsville Barracudas, Saltillo Rancho Seco and Oxford City of Texas (formerly Texas Strikers).

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Sidekicks have partnered with Susan G. Komen North Texas and will wear limited edition pink jerseys to be auctioned off after the match. All proceeds from both the jersey auction and the Sidekicks' traditional Toss for a Cause in the third quarter will go to Susan G. Komen North Texas.

All Dallas Sidekicks home games are broadcast on the Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and can be streamed online at www.golivesportscast.com.
