October 22, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Youngstown Phantoms News Release
The Youngstown Phantoms (4-2-1) are coming off of a weekend split last week, dropping Friday's road game in Dubuque, 5-4 in overtime, followed by a 6-0 shutout of the Fighting Saints on Saturday night.
The Phantoms got off to a 2-0 lead after the first period on Friday, thanks to goals from Kiefer Sherwood and Josh Melnick. Dubuque cut the lead in half midway through the second, however Max Letunov extended the Phantoms' lead back to two goals, 3-1, with 47 seconds left in the period. With just eight seconds left in the middle frame, the Fighting Saints scored after a Phantoms turnover, cutting Youngstown's lead to 3-2 after 40 minutes.
Dubuque received a pair of goals in within the first 11:36 of the third period, but Taylor Best's first-career USHL goal tied the game, 4-4, to force overtime.
In the extra session, the Phantoms had a number of quality scoring chances, including a Letunov breakaway, however Dubuque's Gordie Green potted the game-winner, two minutes into overtime, giving the Fighting Saints a 5-4 win in overtime.
On Saturday, the Phantoms' offense was firing on all cylinders, as Kyle Connor scored two goals in 18 seconds in the first period, giving the Phantoms an early 2-0 lead. The Phantoms were not done, as defenseman Tommy Parran tallied his second goal of the season to give Youngstown a 3-0 lead after the first period.
The blue line continued to produce in the second period, as Matt Miller and Vas Kolias each lit the lamp, giving the Phantoms a 5-0 lead through two periods. For Kolias, it was his first-career USHL goal.
The Phantoms put the game away in the third, when Kevin Conley netted his second of the season, giving the Phantoms a 6-0 win.
Goaltender Colin DeAugustine was perfect on the night, stopping all 34 shots he faced to earn his second career shutout, and third win of the season.
UP NEXT: The Phantoms welcome in the Bloomington Thunder on Friday and Saturday for the start of an eight game home stand. The two sides have met twice this season, with the Phantoms holding a 2-0-0 edge in the series. This weekend will mark the third and fourth meetings of the season between the clubs. The two sides will meet four more times after this weekend, with three of them coming prior to Thanksgiving.

Josh Melnick's two assists in Friday's 5-4 overtime loss marked his 24th and 25th assists of his USHL career.
