Threshers in the Arizona Fall League

October 22, 2014 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - During baseball's offseason, not all players return home to rest. Many take part in their respective club's fall instructional leagues, which are like a late Spring Training for minor leaguers.

Another crop of prospects are assigned to the Arizona Fall League with the chance to work on their skills and get more competitive playing time. The games in the AFL are played at Spring Training sites from the first week of October through the middle of November. The six-team league makes up its rosters with players from all 30 Major League organizations.

The Clearwater Threshers have several recent players participating in the AFL, they are assigned to the Scottsdale Scorpions along with other Phillies and players from the Mets, Yankees, Pirates, and Giants. All stats references are through October 22.

Roman Quinn, CF

The center fielder missed the beginning of the 2014 season recovering from an injury and is making up for the lost development time in the AFL. After switching positions from shortstop to center during the Threshers' season, Quinn is becoming more comfortable defensively. His progression at the plate continues as well. Through 10 games, Quinn leads the Scorpions in at-bats and has 12 hits with nine runs scored. The speedster also leads the league in stolen bases with nine.

Logan Moore, C

The left-handed hitting catcher began the season with the Threshers and moved up to Double-A Reading after appearing in 32 games in Clearwater. Moore is part of the catcher rotation in Scottsdale, having played in five games.

Colton Murray, RHP

The reliever's performance in Clearwater earned a promotion to Reading during the summer. He made the most of the opportunity with a 2.23 ERA over 47 games at both levels. In Arizona, Murray has stayed consistent, appearing in five games while striking out seven and only walking one batter.

Ethan Stewart, LHP

The 6'7" southpaw started the Thresher's season as a starter but was later moved to the bullpen. The Scorpions are also using Stewart in the reliever's role where he is working on his command. Through 3.1 innings pitched, he has allowed two runs on one hit while striking out six.
