Spirit Acquire Kathrine Reynolds and Angela Salem from Flash

BOYDS, MD. (Oct. 21 2014) - The Washington Spirit announced today that the club has acquired defender Katherine Reynolds and midfielder Angela Salem in a trade with the Western New York Flash. In exchange, the Spirit has sent midfielder Jordan Angeli and a first round pick (6th overall) in the 2015 NWSL College Draft to the Flash.

"'After a great 2014 season and narrowly missing out on playing in a Championship game, we are determined to take the steps we need to compete for an NWSL title," Sprit general manager and head coach Mark Parsons said. "Bringing in top players and true professionals like Katherine and Angela is a huge leap for us and I am very excited to welcome them to the club."

Reynolds, 27, played for the Western New York Flash for three years, winning a WPSL Elite championship in 2012 and the NWSL Shield in 2013. She started and played in 41 games during the past two NWSL seasons with the Flash.

Salem, 26, also played for the Flash since 2012, winning a WPSL Elite championship in 2012 and the NWSL Shield in 2013. She made an impressive 44 appearances with the Flash during the last two NWSL seasons.

After signing for the Spirit in February, Angeli made just 10 appearances for Washington in 2014.

"Jordan will be missed by us all and I wish her the very best in the future," Parsons added. "She gave so much to the team on and off the field and I know she will be a huge success at WNY."

Reynolds and Salem are currently on loan at Newcastle Jets in the Australian W-League along with Washington midfielder Tori Huster. All three players will return to the Spirit before the start of the 2015 NWSL season.
